The Gordon and Patricia Marcinak Scholarship
The Gordon and Patricia Marcinak Scholarship is for the spring 2024 semester for students currently enrolled in their second year in a business curriculum at an accredited four-year college or university. Interested individuals must apply by March 18, 2024. Only completed applications postmarked by the deadline date will be considered. Up to four recipients will be awarded the scholarship. Recipients will be determined by a review committee of the West Iron County Foundation.
The Gordon and Patricia Marcinak Educational Scholarship was established in 2018 to assist graduates of West Iron County High School of good character to continue their education. This scholarship is offered annually for the spring semester. Scholarship criteria includes: Must be a graduate of West Iron County High School and currently enrolled for their second year in post-secondary educational institution (four-year college or university); a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater; and of good personal character. Priority will be given to those students currently enrolled in a business curriculum expected to lead to a bachelor’s degree or higher. In the event that not enough qualified applicants in business are received, then students seeking a bachelor’s degree or higher at an accredited college or university in science, technology, and engineering will be considered.
The Gordon and Patricia Marcinak Scholarship application must include a current college or university transcript reflecting enrollment in the 2020 spring term, a narrative explaining the applicant’s educational goals and how their field of study relates to the scholarship, (2) years participation in high school sports and (2) consecutive years of an extracurricular activity i.e. band, drama, student council, Key club. Further, the application must include a reference letter from a teacher or non-family person familiar with the applicant acknowledging the applicant’s good character with specific examples of school and community involvement.
